Funeral services were held in the Baptist church of Concord Wednesday morning at 10:30. Services were conducted by Rev. T.J. Espy, pastor, and Rev. J.M. Cook of Concord. Pallbearers were chosen from among her nephews. Mrs. Oxford, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Uel M. Mathews, was born October 8th, 1854 in Heard County, Ga., and moved with her parents to this county when she was a young girl. She joined the Hebron Baptist Church of Concord while in her teens and had been a member for about fifty-four years at the time of her death. Mr. and Mrs. Oxford were married November 20, 1873. Mr. Oxford died April 29, 1920. There were eleven children, six of whom survive. They are: Mrs. M.J. Willingham, Mt. Dora, Fla.; Mr. H.E. Oxford, Concord; Miss Willie Oxford, Concord; Mrs. B.H. Marshall, Griffin; Mr. C.E. Oxford, Concord and Mr. J.W. Oxford, Concord. Mrs, Oxford was a sister of the late Dr. J.B. Mathews, noted physician and educator of Pike County. She is also survived by three sisters, one brother, twenty-six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The sisters and brothers are: Mrs. Mary J. Whitaker, Mrs. Ellen McLendon, Mr. Edwin D. Mathews, and Mrs. Susie J. Henderson. The body was laid to rest in the family lot of Old Hebron Cemetery in the presence of a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
