Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, December 3, 1897 In Memoriam Mr. John L. Banks departed this life Sunday Nov. 28th, 1897 at his home near Hollonville, Pike county, Ga., at the age of 53 years. On Monday his remains were carried to Concord church, where impressive funeral services were held, conducted by his pastor, Judge E.W. Hammond, after which the Masons presided over by Deputy H.C. Burr, deposited his body in its last resting place at Hebron cemetery, witnessed by a large number of neighbors, friends and relatives. Usually he was robust and active, but for several months previous to his death, his health failed and he became a great sufferer. When quite a young man he enlisted in Co. G, 27th Ga. Regiment and was a valiant Confederate soldier. He also enlisted under the Banner of the Cross and ever delighted to labor for the Captain of his salvation. He was a devout member of the Masonic Fraternity and dearly loved its sacred principles. He was a member of the Pike County Confederate Veterans Association and highly enjoyed their reunions. He was a devoted, true, affectionate husband and father. His every desire was to do no harm to anyone nor to any good cause, but to contribute his influence in any way he could to make the world better. Talented in music, churches, societies and all loved to hear his melodious strains and join that voice now hushed on earth in praise to our King. Many heartfelt expressions have been uttered as to how much we shall miss him as a neighbor, citizen, Mason, and church member. Many words of sympathy have been spoken for the bereaved family and many petitions have gone up to the Heavenly Father to comfort and sustain them and guide them safely to the other shore where trials and disappointments and tears and parting are never known. - A Friend.
