A Sad Death

Last Saturday night occurred the death of Mrs. Hardy Carreker at her home near 
Hollonville. She had been ill only for a short time and the sad intelligence of 
her death came with a great shock to her many friends. She frequently visited 
her father’s family here, Dr. J.B. Mathews, and all who knew her loved her for 
her Christian graces and deeds.

Four bright little children will miss this mother’s love and care and many 
friends will long mourn her loss.

Mattie Mathews Carreker, b. Feb. 1870, d. Sept. 19, 1897. She is buried next to 
her parents.
