Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, November 3, 1899 Hon. J.E. Gardner Dead Hon. J.E. Gardner died at his home in Milner last Saturday at 5:30 a.m. The deceased was about forty-seven years of age and was born and raised in this county. Up to a few years ago he was a fine specimen of physical manhood, but since that time has been somewhat in declining health, until about ten weeks ago he was forced to take to his bed. It was soon ascertained that he had Bright’s disease, the ravages of which the best skill could not check. Mr. Gardner has been justice of the peace, county commissioner, representative in the legislature and was postmaster here under Cleveland’s administration. He leaves a wife and four children, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community in this sad hour of their affliction.
