Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, November 16, 1900 An Obituary Mr. James Patterson, the subject of this sketch was a native of Pike County. He parted this life surrounded by his family and friends, at his home near Orchard Hill, Ga., November 6, 1900 Death is always sad, but the death of the young just entering on life, in the midst of his strength, before age made slow his footstep or chilled the warmth of his heart or dimmed the sparkles of his eye, surrounded by the hills and sunshine of his own native land, this is grief beyond the power of words to describe. Mr. Patterson was a diligent and conscientious man and by his uniform kindness won the esteem and confidence of all who knew him. On his death bed, so an uncle Rev. J.Q. Buffington informs me, he gave every assurance of the genuineness of his repentance and said again and again that God for Christ’s sake had pardoned all his sins. His death was calm and serene, and as beautiful as the going down of the sun, now appropriate to sing at the grave, “Over in the soul’s bright clime.” Thank God for the hope of meeting again! May the widow’s friend and the orphan’s God care for sister Patterson and her three fatherless children. - G.W. Farr (Transcribed 10/10/03 Lynn Cunningham) Additional Comments: At Griffin Cemetery, Lamar County, Georgia: Patterson, J.E., b. 11 Jan. 1867, d. 6 Nov. 1900 James Patterson was a son of John M. Patterson and Nancy Ann Buffington. This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.0 Kb
