Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, August 9, 1901 E.L. Manley, Jr. Killed Last Saturday afternoon, E.L. Manley, Jr., of near Hollonville, was killed in a runaway accident at Baker’s bridge over Elkins creek, and the coroner’s jury which was empaneled Sunday returned a verdict of accidental death. Manley and Tom Driver had been spending the day at Lifsey and were returning home when the horse they were driving became frightened and ran away. Driver was at once thrown out and escaped with only a few small bruises, but Manley, who was driving, had the misfortune to catch one of his feet between the brace that goes from the axle to the connecting rod of the buggy and was dragged over a mile when the horse became unloosed and galloped off, leaving the buggy unhurt and Mr. Manley badly mangled and dead. His remains were interred in the family burying ground in Spalding county Monday morning.
