Ballard James W. Ballard, one of Pike county's best known citizens, died of heart trouble Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock at his home near Zebulon. He had been ill about two weeks. The funeral was held at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from Zebulon Methodist church, of which he was a member, and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. E. Rutland, assisted by Rev. R. W. Rogers. Interment was in the Baptist cemetery. Mr. Ballard, who was 52 years old, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ballard and was born and reared in this county. He was one of the county's most successful farmers, was widely known and held in high esteem and his death marks a distinct loss to the citizenship of the county. Mr. Ballard is survived by his widow, two children, Thad Ballard of Atlanta and Miss Mary Lena Ballard; two brothers, F.E. and T. B. Ballard of Savannah; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Robertson of Atlanta. His parents are Thomas W Ballard and Isabella Wilder Ballard. His siblings are Frank Elijah Ballard, Thomas B Ballard (they both go to Columbia SC by 1930) and Mabel Ballard Robertson.
