Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, July 16, 1897 Resolutions of Respect Passed on the Death of Mrs. Mary E. Mathews by the Baptist Church in Conference July 10, 1897 Mrs. Mary E. Mathews, nee Brooks, was born Dec. 22nd 1846 in Pike county. Ga. She joined the Baptist church at Hebron in 1863. She was married to Dr. J.B. Mathews August 31st, 1865. She died in her home in Zebulon, Ga., June 5, 1897. Whereas, in the inscrutable providence of our Divine Head, our esteemed sister has been removed from the Church militant to the Church Triumphant, and whereas her gain is our loss, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Zebulon Baptist church in conference, 1st. That in the death of our beloved sister, the church has lost a faithful and consecrated member, a meek and gentle follower of our Lord, a true friend to the cause of righteousness and a humble and pious Christian. 2nd. That we heartily sympathize with our bereaved brother and his motherless children in their irreparable loss of wife and mother. 3rd. That though our hearts are sad and we deeply feel our loss, we bow in humble submission to the will of our heavenly father, knowing that he doeth all things well. 4th. That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the minute book of the church, a copy be furnished to the bereaved family of our sister, and the Christian Index and Pike County Journal for publication.
