Buchanan, 74, died Thursday afternoon at his home on the Griffin-Zebulon highway in Pike county. Death came after a brief illness. Mr. Buchanan was a well known merchant and planter and operated Buchanan's Store on the Griffin-Zebulon highway. He was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist church, and had been married since 1879. Funeral services will be conducted from the home Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. John Rawls will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Gilead Baptist churchyard with Haisten Brothers, funeral directors, in charge. Pallbearers will be Joe and Johnny Vaughn, Arthur Wood, Jim Ballard, Wilson McLeroy and Carlton Buchanan. Surviving Mr. Buchanan are his widow, Mrs. Emily Pitts Buchanan; three sons, Walter L.J.G. and A.C. Buchanan, all of near Griffin; one daughter, Mrs. W.V. Greene, of near Griffin; one brother, John Buchanan, of near Griffin; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. File size: 1.4 Kb
