His body was recovered a half mile down the stream Monday afternoon. Burial was at the Williamson Methodist church Tuesday morning, services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. D.P. Johnston. At the time of the tragedy the river was up and Mr. Stegar with Mr. Ballard, was in a boat which was drawn near the dam by the suction. Both men jumped out and Mr. Ballard succeeded in swimming to the bank but Mr. Stegar was carried down by the suction. Mr. Stegar lived about four miles south of Williamson and [was] a son of Mrs. Susie Stegar who lives between Zebulon and Williamson. He was a brother of David and Robert Stegar; a nephew of Messrs. F.W. Stegar of Zebulon and K.D. and Lowe Huckaby. The many friends of the family sincerely sympathize with them in this sad death.
