Sykes Passes Mrs. W.J. Sykes, one of the beloved women of Lamar county, living in Redbone district passed away Wednesday morning at the family home, after a long illness, running through several years. Her passing was not unexpected, as it was generally known that she was in a critical condition and for quite a while little hope was entertained for her recovery. The funeral will be held from Fredonia church, near Barnesville, today, Thursday, and hosts of friends of Mrs. Sykes and her family will avail themselves of the opportunity of showing their interest and sympathy by attending the service. Mrs. Sykes was about 66 years old and all her life she had lived in this section of the state, where she was known and loved by the people. She was a noble Christian woman, a faithful member of the Baptist church, her membership being the past several years of Mt. Pleasant church, a dutiful wife and mother and an appreciated friend. Her passing will be sincerely mourned by many relatives in Barnesville, and in Lamar and adjoining counties. Mrs. Sykes is survived by her husband, one son, Mr. Aubrey Sykes of Atlanta, two daughters, Mrs. J.O. Collier of Lamar county, and Mrs. Paul Means of Atlanta, two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Phillips and Mrs. J.C. Harris, three brothers, Sheriff Z.T. Elliott and C.C. Elliott of Lamar county, and Mr. J.W. Elliott of Pike county, to all of whom the people extend deep sympathy in their great loss over Mrs. Sykes death.
