Ga. Journal Friday Dec. 7, 1934 J.C. Wood One of Pike County's leading citizens died of heart trouble at his home near Zebulon, Nov. 27. Mr John C. Wood 77 years of age died at his home on the Barnesville Rd. on Tuesday Nov.27 after a lingering illness caused from heart trouble. Mr Wood was probably one of the best known citizens of Pike County being a farmer of the highest type and a Christian gentleman of every since of the word. Mr. Wood was born August 19th 1857 within a short distance of the place where he lived and had won the esteem of every citizen of this and adjoining counties with whom he came in contact. During the fall of 1881 he was married to Payola Walton who preceded him to his grave by some six years. Funeral service for Mr. Wood were held from the Nazareth church of which he had been a member of for several years with the Rev. G.H. Bailey of Atlanta a former pastor of the Zebulon circuit officiating, interment. He is survived by four daughters Mrs. Annie White of Alabama, Mrs. Freddie Bush of Zebulon, Mrs. Willie Allen of Zebulon, Mrs. Ludie Williamson of Williamson and two sons, Mr Sherman Wood of Barnesville, and Mr. Paul Wood. (Note: Mr. Wood was married to Payola Waller, and is buried in the Wood Cemetery on Williams Mill Rd. Pike Co. Ga.) =================== Pike County Journal Friday Dec. 7, 1928 Mrs. J.C.Wood died late Thursday evening Nov. 9th at her home near Zebulon after several months illness. Mrs. Wood was born in Spalding County March 1858, was a member of the Zebulon Methodist Church at the time of her death. She joined the Ebenezer Methodist Church early in life but moved her membership to Zebulon several years ago. She was very faithful to her church and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. Funeral service was held at Nazareth Bapt. Church at Weaver with Rev. G.H.Bailey officiating, interment was in the family cemetery. Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband Mr. John C. Wood, daughters Mrs.Geo.White of Sand Mtn. Alabama, Mrs. Warren Williamson of Williamson, Mrs. Troy Bush, Mrs. O.J. Cannafax and Mrs. Dewitt Allen of Zebulon. Two sons, J.P.Wood of Los Angeles Cal. R.S.Wood of Barnesville, three sisters, Mrs. John Bolton of Navada, Missouri. Mrs. J.H.Hall of Barnesville, and Mrs. Myra Key, one brother Mr. A.P.Waller of Dawson, Ga. and several grandchildren.
