Zebulon, Pike County, Georgia, December 11, 1896 Morgan - Barker A marriage of great interest in Western Georgia, will be that of Dr. Johnson Harry Morgan and Miss Willie Raciae Maie Barker, which will occur at sunset on the evening of December 23rd at the Baptist church in Molena. Miss Barker is the second daughter of Wm. T. Barker, one of the wealthiest planters of Pike county. Since her debut in society she has been the reigning belle of the community in which she lives. She is a beautiful demi blonde with heavy chestnut brown hair, pretty soft blue eyes and lovely coloring. She is the picture of perfect health and with the many traits of amiability and usefulness together with talent and culture, she is a young lady of worthiness and stability. Dr. Morgan is the son of the late W.A. Morgan, Sr., of Atlanta, and is one of the most successful, young physicians in Georgia. He possesses the many traits of character that have won for him the respect and admiration of all who know him. After graduating from two or three of the best Medical schools, he practiced his profession in Atlanta for several years and during that time he became well known and very popular as a physician. In his new field of labor he has a good practice and a thriving Drug trade. He is widely known through Georgia and is very popular in the social world. The wedding will be an elaborate and brilliant social event. After the church ceremony the bridal party will be received at the beautiful country home of the bride’s father where an elegant and sumptuous wedding feast will be tender[ed] them. The dining room will be appropriately decorated in bambrew [?], smilax, christianthemmums [sp] and various kinds of small grain which will produce a most beautiful harvest scene. The church will be artistically decorated in ferns, roses and hothouse plants. Over the marriage alter will suspend in [an] arch a number of rose tinted lights in clusters, from the center of which will hang a large evening star of pure white metal. The bridesmaids will be in colors and will form a semicircle producing the beautiful effect of the rainbow so often seen just at sunset. They will carry white carinations [sp] and maiden hair ferns. The bride’s costume will be of heavy white duchesse satin; clusters of orange blossoms will adorn the corsage draperies of Irish point lace and family jewels will confine the folds of her veil - she will carry white brides roses. Miss Lillie Belle Barker will be maid of honor and will also be costumed in white satin and will carry pink bridesmaid roses. Mr. Wiley L. Morgan, of Knoxville, Tenn, will act as best man. Dr. D.A. Brindle of Atlanta will officiate. Mrs. C.P. Jordan of Molena will preside as organist, accompanied by Mr. A.A. Wright, of Griffin, with cornett [sp]. The bride and groom will leave for New York next morning, returning home through Florida in January.
