Carreker Georgia Pike County In the name of God Amen Item 1st I James L. Carreker of said State and County being of advanced age & in feeble health, but of sound mind & knowing that in the course of nature that I cannot live a great while, deem it to be proper that I should give expression to my wishes as to the disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me, after my death, and to that end I hereby revoke & annul all former wills heretofore made by me. Item 2nd I will and direct that my body shall be buried in a decent and Christian like manner & my soul I consign to God who gave it trusting in the merit and atonement of Our Lord Jesus Christ Item 3rd I desire that my just debts shall be paid as soon after my death as practicable Item 4th I hereby constitute and appoint my oldest son William A. Carreker of Pike County Ga., as the executor of this my last Will and Testament & enjoin upon him the faithful execution and carrying out of the provisions of the same, as herein expressed. That is to say that I desire that all my property shall be kept together as nearly so as can be done, and managed and controled [sp] and supervised by my said Executor for the use and benefit of my beloved wife Sarah E. Carreker; and to this end I desire that she shall use and enjoy all of my property so as to make her as comfortable & happy after my death as the circumstances will permit, and I desire that my property shall be so used and managed that my wife shall be made comfortable and happy from the proceeds of the same if possible but if the proceeds from any cause are not sufficient for this purpose, then I direct that the corpus or a sufficiency of the same be sold by my said Executor with the consent of my said wife, so that my wife will be amply and comfortably provided for. This provision in favor of my said wife shall continue and remain in full force for and during her natural life. Such furniture from my household and a horse and buggy & cow & calf as she shall choose shall be hers absolutely & also she shall have absolutely Three Hundred Dollars in money counting as part of said Three Hundred Dollars my pension from the U. S. Government; this last provision of personal property and money to be hers absolutely, to aid in her support the first year after my death. All the other provisions for my said wife to continue during her natural life & after her death I desire and direct that such of my property as shall then be remaining shall be disposed of as is provided in 5th Item of this my last Will and Testament Item 5th After the death of my wife Sarah E. Carreker, I will and direct that all of my property as may then be remaining, shall be disposed of as follows: The same shall be sold by my said Executor at public or private sale as he may deem best, without an order of court & the proceeds equally divided between my son William A. My son John M. deceased, the heirs of my deceased daughter Mrs. Mary C. Owen wife of B. M. Owen, Susan E. Thrash, wife of Terrell Thrash of Arkansas, and her children, and James H. Carreker my youngest son. This last share named for James H. Carreker is hereby given & bequeathed to my grand-son Glenn B. Carreker in his own right in the place and stead of said James H. I have made the remainder of my estate after the expiration of the life estate of my said wife into four equal shares as above, not making any bequest herein to my other three sons James Jr, Newton P., & George W. Carreker, because I consider that I have done for them all that I consider that I should do and I direct that they shall have no further interest in or from my estate. The shares given or named above for John M. Carreker deceased, I desire and direct that the same shall be the property absolutely of my grand daughter Bertha Carreker the daughter of the said John M. Carreker deceased in the final division of my said estate. After the death of my wife I direct that a set of silver Table spoons and a set of silver tea spoons which I now have and which were given to my first wife by my Father, be not sold, but that the same be given to my daughter Susan E. Thrash - as they belonged to her deceased Mother. Item 6th The foregoing I declare and publish to be my last Will and Testament this the 26th day of June 1896. As witness my hand seal set hereto James L. Carreker The foregoing instrument Signed sealed published and declared by James L. Carreker in our presence as his Last Will and Testament and we at his special instance and request signing the same as witness in his presence & in the presence of each other June 26th 1896. Carreker, late of said County, now deceased, sign, seal, publish and declare the foregoing instrument in writing to be his last Will and Testament on the 26th day of June 1896, in presence of deponent and in presence of Josephus Coggin and E. H. Hammond and deponent and the said Josephus Coggin & E. W. Hammond as the special instance and request of the said James L. Carreker signed the same as witness in the presence of said James L. Carreker and in the presence of each other, and at the time of executing the same the said James L. Carreker was of sound & disposing mind & memory & executed the same freely and voluntarily J. L. Coggin Sworn to & subscribed before me Sept 7th 1896 Thos J. Blasingame Ordinary Georgia Pike County I Wm. A. Carreker do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last Will of the within named Jas. L.
