I Charles Kent of the county and state aforesaid being of advanced age and knowing that I must soon or later die but at this time of sound and disposing mind and memory do make declare and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills heretofore made by me. Item 1st I will that my burial expenses and expenses of last illness and all my just debts be paid. Item 2nd I will and bequeath the lot of land whereon I now live in the 5th district of originally Monroe but now Pike County number one hundred and eighty two to my three daughters Nancy, Polly and Tabitha to be divided between them as follows one half to Nancy and the other half equally between the other two and should either of my said daughters die before I do I in that event bequeath the share that she might have received equally to the survivors. Item 3rd I will and bequeath unto my three daughters Nancy, Polly and Tabitha my two Negroes and their increase (should there be any from this woman) to wit - Jack a man and Mariah a woman as follows one half the value or of said Negroes half said Negroes should they choose to divide without selling to my daughter Nancy and the other half equally between my daughters Polly and Tabitha should they all be living at the time of my death but should either be dead at that time then and in that event the survivors of the said three to receive the part the deceased would have received had she been in life. Item 4th The remainder of my estate of every kind I will and bequeath that it be sold and the proceeds of the sale thereof after paying my funeral expenses and such just debts as I may owe at the time of my death - equally divided among all my children except Susan Griffin wife of Ebenezer Griffin and my will is that neither her nor her husband have any part of my estate. But before said sale of said residue of said estate I will and bequeath to each of my daughters Nancy, Polly and Tabitha and my grand children Walton Kent, Charles Kent Griffin, Sabrina Kent, and Sampson Kent each to have a _?_ and furniture and Sampson to have my shotgun and then and not before then the residue of my estate to be sold and the proceeds to be divided among my children as above specified and the said Susan Griffin and her husband not either of them to receive any part thing. Item 5th I will and bequeath that in the event of the death of my daughter Polly without children that then and in that event the property willed to her shall go to and be the property of Sampson Kent and it is to be understood by this my will that the part willed to my said daughter Polly is intended for her use and support during her life and not as an absolute bequest but only for life aforesaid and to her child or children if any and if none to Sampson Kent as aforesaid. Item 6th I do hereby appoint my friends James Dismukes and Leonard Harris my executors to carry this my will into effect and desire that they should sell my property after paying over the specific legacies of the land, Negroes, beds and furniture and gun herein bequeathed to the best advantage and upon such terms as they may deem most advantageous to the legates. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 2nd day of June 1852 declaring the forgoing to be my last will and testament. John Brunt (his mark) William Brooks Hartford Green Georgia Pike County We John Brunt and William Brooks do solemnly swear that we saw Charles Kent sign seal and heard him publish and declare this writing to be and contain his will and at the time thereof he was of sound disposing mind and memory and that he did it freely without compulsion to the best of our knowledge and belief and we do further swear that we saw Hartford Green sign the same as witness in our presence and in presence of the testator . Beckham Ordinary State of Georgia Pike County We Leonard Harris and James Dismukes do solemnly swear that this writing contains the last will and testament of Charles Kent deceased so far as we know or believe and that we will well and truly execute the same as far as his goods and chattels will hereunto extend and the law charges us and that we will make a true and perfect inventory of all such goods and chattels so help us God.
