Holmes of said State & county being of sound and disposing Mind and Memory, do make this my last Will and Testament Item First I give, bequeath and devise to my daughter Bessie Louisa Holmes, the following property to wit My two story Brick Store House and Lot in the Town of Barnesville and 7th District of Pike County, Georgia bounded as follows: East by Public Square, South by Store House and lot of A. H. Swatts [?] West by Ally [sp] North by Drug Store and lot of Mrs. S. B. Burr Jr. [?] fronting thirty one and a half feet, and running back eighty feet to ally Also one house and lot in said District, Town, County and State, bounded as follows: North by Holmes Street, East by House and Lot of F. W. Stafford South by Spring [?] Lot of Mr. Edward Elder, West by House and Lot of J. M. Pounds fronting on Holmes Street one Hundred (110) and ten feet running back with parallel sides three hundred and sixty feet. Also two hundred and two acres of land situated and lying in the 7th District of Pike County, Georgia, bounded as follows: East by land of George Davidson, North by land of John F. Taylor, W. H. Willis and Barnesville Manufacturing Company, West by land of Mr. J. E. Lavender , South by land of Pike County Central Railroad and Lige [?] Jenkins known as the Jenkins place. Item Second I give, bequeath and devise to my daughter Bessie Louisa Holmes all my stock in the Southern Mutual Building and Loan Association and all I may have at my death. Also all stock I have or may have at my death in the Southern Home Building and Loan Association. Both of the said Building and Loan Associations being now located and doing business in the City of Atlanta, Fulton County Georgia. Item Third I give bequeath and devise to my daughter Bessie Louisa Holmes my stock of Merchandise now being managed by my husband C. C. [?] Holmes in the two story Brick Store House named in Item first also all my other personal property of every kind. Item Fourth I hereby constitute and appoint my Husband C. C. Holmes Executor of this my last Will and Testament. I also appoint my husband C. C. Holmes Guardian for my daughter Bessie Louisa Holmes, and authorize him the said C. C. Holmes to sell or mortgage any said Real Estate at private or public sale and to reinvest same or to manage the proceeds thereof for the benefit of the said Bessie Louisa Holmes, in any way he may in his judgment deem best. I also authorize him the said C. C. Holmes to continue or discontinue the mercantile business bequeathed in Item Third at his discretion or to manage said mercantile business or the proceeds of same as he may deem for the best interest of the said Bessie Louisa Holmes, and to charge her said Estate reasonable compensation for his services. The said Executor and Guardian C. C. Holmes shall not in either capacity be required to make Returns to the Ordinary. This the 15th day of January 1875 Bessie G. Holmes Signed, declared and published by Bessie G. Holmes as her last Will and Testament in the presence of us, the subscribers who subscribed our names hereto in the presence of said Testator at her instance and of each other, she signing in our presence and we signing in her presence J. W. Means John H. Blackburn Geo. W Stocks Georgia, Pike County Pike Court of Ordinary March Term 1895 Personally came before me Mr. T. J. Blasingame Ordinary of said County at the regular Term of Pike Court of Ordinary, J. W. Means one of the witnesses to the foregoing paper purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Mrs. Bessie G. Holmes late of said County deceased who having been duly sworn says that he together with John H. Blackburn and Geo. W. Stocks the other witnesses to said Will, saw Mrs. Bessie G. Holmes sign and heard her publish and declare the foregoing as her last Will and Testament and at the time she was of sound & disposing mind and memory, That they witnessed the same for her at her request and in her presence and in the presence of each other and that the same [for her at her request crossed out] was executed by her, freely and voluntarily on the day it purports to have been executed J. W. Means Sworn to & subscribed before me in open court this March 4th 1895 Thos. J. Blasingame Georgia Pike County I C. C. Holmes do solemnly swear that this writing contains the last Will of the within named Bessie G. Holmes deceased so far as I know or believe and that I will and truly execute the same in accordance with the laws of this State. So help me God C. C.
