All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: William Russell dragonraj@comcast.net September 8, 2006, 10:16 pm Source: Pike County Probate Court Written: December 18, 1865 Recorded: September 11, 1874 State of Georgia Pike County In the name of God Amen I Nancy Kent of Said State and County being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart this life, deem it right and proper both as respects my family and myself that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed m, do therefore make this my last Will and testament hereby revoking all others here before made by me. 1st Item I devise and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner suitable to my circumstance and condition in life. My Soul I trust shall return to rest with God who gave it. 2nd Item I desire and direct that all my debts be paid without delay by my Executors hereinafter appointed, as I am unwilling my creditors should be delayed in their rights, especially as there id no necessity for delay. 3rd Item I give bequeath and devise to my Grand children Namely July Ann, Louvina, James P., Nancy Catherine Kent, lawful children of my son Walton P. Kent, all the tract or parcel of land, containing One hundred and one and one quarter acres more or less lying and being in the Ninth Dist. Of Pike County, known as the Homestead of the said Nancy Kent, with all the rights and numbers and appurtenances to said lot or parcel of land. 4th Item I give bequeath and devise to my four Grand children named in Item 3, one gray mere and her increase, and two cows and all my household and kitchen furniture all of the above named property to be equally divided among my four grand children before mentioned except July Ann and she the said July Ann Kent to have one hundred dollars more than the rest and I appoint my trusty and worthy son Walton P. Kent trustee of the property hereby given and bequeathed to my four Grand children viz July Ann, Louvina, James P. and Nancy Catherine Kent 5th Item I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved friend Green B. W. Blount executor of this my last will and testament this December 18th 1865 Nancy Kent her mark Signed sealed declared and published by Nancy Kent as her last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers who subscribed our names hereto, in the presence of said Testator at her special instance and request and of each other this Dec 18th 1865 G. Strickland Ordinary’s Office Pike County Sept 4th 1870 Before me came on the 6th day of Sept. 1870 at chambers for the purpose of proving the Last Will & Testament of Nancy Kent the witnesses to said will by Geo. H. Strickland and M. O. Strickland two of the subscribing witnesses to said will and the will having been brought before me for probate by the executor Green B. W. Blount who has filed his petition for probate of the same. They the said witnesses depose of the same that they saw said Nancy Kent sign and publish the same as her last will and testament on the day and year then stated, as executed by her that they witnessed the same at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other, that the same was voluntarily executed by her while she was of sound and disposing mind and memory Geo. Harper Ordny Pike Court of Ordinary Oct. term 1870 Ordered by the Court that the will of Nancy Kent be admitted to record as satisfactorily proven in common form and the Executor G. B. W. Blount have leave to qualify and upon so doing that letters Testamentary issued to him. Pike Court of Ordinary Oct. Term 1870 I do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last will of the within named Nancy Kent deceased so far as I know or believe and that I will well and truly execute the same in accordance with the laws of this State so help me God.
