All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: William Russell dragonraj@comcast.net October 17, 2006, 10:46 am Source: Will Book A Pike County Probate Court Written: September 7, 1819 Recorded: December 1, 1823 In the name of God Amen I Joseph Ledbetter being in my proper mind and memory calling in to mind the mortality of my body & knowledge that it is appointed for all men to die - I do make & ordain this my last will and testament--- First I give and bequeath to Jenny my beloved wife all my land and negroes and stock of all kind household and kitchen furniture and plantation tools during her lifetime or widowhood after paying all my debts - and then at her marriage I give unto her one horse & one bed and furniture one cow & calf and then all the property but the Negroes & land to be sold and the land to be rented & the Negroes to be hired until the youngest child comes of age and the money to be put to the use of schooling the children till they get good education then the land and Negroes to be sold and the money equally divided amongst them all that is living--- I do hereby appoint and ordain Robert Hicks & William Ledbetter & Jenny my wife as the sole executors of this my last will and testament as witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty seventh day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen. Joseph Ledbetter Signed in the presence of Benjamin Ledbetter Taylor Morris Wiley Buckner Georgia Pike County Personally came Wiley Buckner before us two of the Justices of the Inferior Court & after being duly sworn sayeth that he saw Joseph Ledbetter sign his name to the within and acknowledged it to be his last will & testament and that he saw Benjamin Ledbetter & Taylor Morris sign the same as witnesses and that Joseph Ledbetter was in his proper mind at the time to the best of his knowledge this 3rd Nov. 1823 Wiley Buckner William Mitchell Thos. G. [ _ ] I do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last will of the within named Joseph Ledbetter deceased so far as I know & believe that I will well & truly execute the same by paying first the debts and then the legacies contained in the said will so far as his goods and chattels will thereto extend & the law charge me & that I will make a true Inventory of all such goods and chattels So help me God Jane Ledbetter Sworn to in open court this 3rd Nov. 1823 H.
