Recorded: December 4 1849 Georgia Pike County I John Ison of the county and state aforesaid being of sound mind but advanced in years and knowing that death is certain, do by the grace of God make and ordain this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. Item 1st I do hereby request and desire that my burial expenses and just debts be paid by my executors. Item 2nd I do hereby give, grant and bequeath unto my beloved wife Hannah Ison all my property both real and personal to belong to her during her widowhood and at her own disposal during said widowhood, subject alone to the following restrictions and bequests. Item 3rd I do hereby give, grant and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Sarah Ann Ison during her life and at her death, to her children and they _?_ my Negro girl now a child named Abi. Said daughter Sarah Ann to receive said Negro girl child Abi at the time she, the said Sarah Ann, may leave her present place of residence (it being her fathers residence) and the then said Sarah Ann is to receive the said Negro girl Abi at a fair valuation to be deducted out of her portion of my estate. If said Negro is living when the then said Sarah Ann leaves said abode otherwise to receive her portion as my two children. Item 4th I do hereby request my beloved wife Hannah Ison to give to each of my sons, Francis M. Ison, Thomas J. Ison, Jesse N. Ison, Elijah J. Ison, Martin N. Ison, and Jonathon J. Ison if they remain with her until they are nineteen years of age - for every one of these that remain with her until they arrive at the said age of nineteen years the same amount I have given my son John F. Ison and that is marked on my account book against him the said John F. Ison. Item 5th If any of my sons, before mentioned, leave any marked against them on my account book, before mentioned , he or they in that want shall only be entitled to receive any additional sum sufficient to make the amount before mentioned near to my son John F. Ison. Item 6th I bequeath that my beloved wife Hannah pay off each of my sons before mentioned in property that she may have to spare and they _?_ or money as my beloved wife may collect. Item 7th I do hereby give and bequeath to my beloved son Oliver H. Ison, my Negro boy Charles, and to my son Emanuel E. Ison, I give and bequeath my Negro boy Peter, the said Oliver H. and Emanuel E. to receive the said Negroes at a fair valuation when they the said Oliver H. and Emanuel E. shall arrive at the age of nineteen years, and if either of said Negroes shall be _?_ at a greater price than I have in my account book marked against John F. Ison, he or they shall pay to my estate the overplus of said valuation. Item 8th I do further bequeath that after my young son Emanuel E. Ison shall arrive at the age of nineteen years, if he should not arrive at that age during my beloved wife Hannahs lifetime, and if he should not, then so soon as my beloved wifes death or expiration, I request that the balance of my estate both real and personal, after the above bequest, be sold and an equal division of the proceeds thereof made to each and everyone of my children namely Margaret Harp(?), wife of Emanuel Harp(?), John F. Ison, Sarah Ann Ison, Francis M. Ison, Thomas J. Ison, Jesse N. Ison, Elijah J. Ison, Martin M. Ison, Jonathon J. Ison, Oliver _?_ Ison, and Emanuel _?_ Ison. Item 9th Lastly I bequeath that this my will be carried into effect by my wife Hannah Ison. And I do hereby constitute her, my said wife Hannah Ison, my executrix to carry this my last will and testament in full and _?_ effect by selling at private sale or otherwise as she may elect, such property whether real or personal, for the purpose of paying the above legacies or bequeaths and to do and act as she may think best to educate and raise the above named children. In witness hereof I the said John Ison have hereunto set my hand and affix my seal to this my last will and testament after its being introduced and acknowledged as such in the presence of the subscribing witnesses this the 18th of January 1843(?) Ellis State of Georgia Pike County We Hartford Green and John Thomas do solemnly swear that we saw John Ison sign, seal, publish and declare this writing to be and contain his will and at the time thereof he was od sound disposing mind and memory and that he did it freely without compulsion to the best of our knowledge and belief and that we saw Rebecca Hancock, Ezikial Daniel, Madison S. Crockett, William J. Ellis, and James T. Ellis sign the same as witnesses. Hartford Green John Thomas Attest in open court this 4th December 1849 W, E. Mangham C.C.O. State of Georgia Pike County I Hannah Ison do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last will and testament of John Ison deceased so far as I know or believe and that I will well and truly execute the same by paying first the debts and then the legacies contained in said will as far as his goods and chattels will thereunto extend and the law charges me and that I will make a true and perfect inventory of all such goods and chattels so help me God.
