I Lemuel Lasiter of said State and County being of advanced age but of sound disposing mind and memory, knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right and proper both as respects my family and my self that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind providence has blessed me. I do therefore make this my last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all others by me heretofore made. First I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christian like manner suitable to my circumstances and condition in life. My soul I trust shall return to rest with God who gave it - as I hope for salvation through the merits and atonements of the blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Secondly I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by my Executors herein after named and appointed. Thirdly I give and bequeath and devise to my beloved wife Martha my Negro man Harry and her bed and furniture received from her by marriage and also two hundred dollars in cash all without limitation or reserve except the two hundred dollars which is to be a portion of my estate if my said wife Martha dies before me. The property devised and bequeathed in the above article to my wife is in full extinguishment of her whole right of Dower in my real estate. Fourthly I give and bequeath to my daughter Julia Ransom wife of Milton Ransom deceased for her sole and separate use for and during her natural life free and exempt from the debts and liabilities of her present or a future husband the following property to wit; one fifth of the proceeds of the sale of all my personal property except such as herein before disposed of to my wife. The property in this article contained (at the death of my daughter Julia Ransom) shall pass to and become the property of the children and representative of children of said Julia forever. Fifthly I give bequeath and devise to my son John L. Lasiter one fifth of the proceeds of my personal property and also one third part of the proceeds derived from the sale of my land to him the said John L. forever. Sixthly I give and bequeath to my two grandsons James and William Lasiter sons of my son William H. deceased one fifth of the proceeds of my personal property and one third of the proceeds derived from the sale of my land just as is given to my son John L. to them the said James and William Lasiter forever. Seventhly I give and bequeath to my daughter Catherine Grisham wife of Jeptha Grisham one fifth of the proceeds of my personal property to her the said Catherine forever. Eighthly I give and bequeath to my daughter in law Myra Lasiter wife of James M. Lasiter for her sole and private use for and during her natural life free and exempt from the debts and liabilities of her present or future husband the following property to wit - one fifth of the proceeds of my personal property and one third of the proceeds derived from the sale of my land - the property in this article contained at the death of my daughter in law Myra Lasiter shall pass to and become the property of the children and representatives of children of said Myra forever. Ninthly I desire that a sale of all my estate both real and personal shall take place as soon after my death as is convenient and be distributed as herein before mentioned. Tenthly I hereby constitute and appoint my son John L. Lasiter and Jeptha Grisham Executors of this my last will and testament this March 23rd 1860. Lemuel Lasiter Signed sealed delivered and published by Lemuel Lasiter Testator as his last will and testament in the presence of us the undersigned who subscribed our names hereto in the presence of said Testator at his special instance and request and in the presence of each other this March 23rd 1860. Simmons Supplement State of Georgia Pike County I Lemuel Lasiter of said state and county being of sound and disposing mind and memory but feeble in bodily health do add the following as a supplement or codicil to my forgoin(sp) last will and testament which I deem necessary in consequence of the death of my beloved wife Martha since the making of the forgoing will. Item 1st The Negro man Harry bed and furniture mentioned in the third item of my will and bequeathed to my wife Martha I do hereby in consequence of the death of my wife will and bequeath said Negro man Harry bed and furniture to my deceased wife’s niece Mary E. Reid wife of Henry Reid for and during her natural life and after her death to go to and be equally divided among her children free and exempt from the debts liabilities and contracts of the present or any future husband of the said Mary E. Reid and hereby request and direct my executors named in my will should I not do so during my lifetime to deliver said Negro man Harry bed and furniture to said Mary E. Reid without appraisement but should I deliver said property to her during my lifetime then and in that event my executors will be relieved from any other further administration of the same. In witness whereof the said Lemuel Lasiter has hereunto set his hand and seal declaring this writing to contain his last will and codicil this the 10th day of April 1863 Lemuel Lasiter We the undersigned saw Lemuel Lasiter sign and seal and heard him publish and declare the forgoing writing to contain his last will supplement or codicil we each signed the same as witnesses at his request in the presence of Testator and of each other this the 10th day of April 1863. Hugley May term Court of Ordinary 1863 The will of Lemuel Lasiter being produced in open court for probate by one of the executors named in said will to wit - Jeptha Grisham who has filed his petition to prove the same and the witnesses to said will to wit - S.K. Reaves and Wm. Barrett having subscribed the usual oath required by law as to the execution of said will and therefore Hartford Green and Z.T. Hugley the writings to the supplement will or codicil to the will of said Lemuel Lasiter having taken and subscribed the usual oath of witnesses in such case as to the execution of said supplemental will or codicil. It is ordered that said will and codicil be established as the last will and testament of Lemuel Lasiter deceased and that letters testamentary do issue to Jeptha J. Grisham one of the executors named in said will upon his taking the oath required by law. May the 4th 1863 S. Sims Ordinary May term Pike County Court of Ordinary 1863 Come into open court S.K. Reaves and Wm. Barrett Jr. and being duly sworn depose and say that they saw Lemuel Lasiter sign and seal the within will and heard him publish and declare the same to contain his last will and testament that he was of sound and disposing mind and memory and signed the same freely and voluntarily that they signed the same as witnesses in Testators presence at his request and in the presence of each other on the day said will purports to have been executed. S.K. Reaves William Barrett Jr. Sworn to before me in open court May the 4th 1863 S. Sims Ordinary And the same time personally came Hartford Green and Z.T. Hugley who being duly sworn depose and say that they saw Lemuel Lasiter sign and seal and heard him publish and declare the written supplement or codicil to his will to contain his last will and testament when taken in connection with his will to which the same was supplemented that he was of sound disposing mind and memory at the time he signed the same freely and voluntarily that they signed the same as witnesses at the request of Testator in his presence and in presence of each other and the other and the other subscribing writing on the day it purports to have been executed. Hartford Green Z.T. Hugley Georgia Pike County I Jeptha J. Grisham do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last will of the within named Lemuel Lasiter deceased so far as I know or believe and that I will well and truly execute the same by paying first the debts and then the legacies contained in the said will as far as his goods and chattels will thereunto extend and the las charge me and that I will make a true and perfect inventory of all such goods and chattels so help me God.
