I Mary Reid of the County and State aforesaid and village of Zebulon being weak of body but of sound disposing mind and memory do make ordain and constitute this my last will and testament. 1st It is wish and desire that my body after my death receive a decent burial. 2nd It is my wish and desire that all my just debts shall be paid out of such of my effects as are not hereafter specifically disposed of by this my will. 3rd I give and bequeath to my youngest daughter Mary (?) Reid my bed, bedstead and bed clothing 4th I give and bequeath to my youngest son William H.C. Reid my sorrel filly. 5th I give and bequeath to my son John W. Reid in Trust for the sole and separate use of my Daughter Anna (T.?) George wife of ( Jephtat V. George?) during the natural life of the said Anna (T.?) and after the death of the said Anna (T.?) to her children the following Negroes to wit Jam a girl about five years of age and Martha a girl about two years of age. That my meaning in this particular I state it again. This particular the said John W. Reid is considered a trustee and is to hold the said Negroes in trust for the ? thereof the said Anna T. George is to have during her natural life the use and ? of said Negro property and their increase and that independent of her husband Jephtat V. George who is to have no right ? claim, interest or control whatever thereof and the children of the said Anna T. George after the death of the said Anna T. George are to have in ? the remainder of said Negroes and their increase. 6th The balance of my property, not before specified, of every description, debts due me, and all after paying off my debts, I give and bequeath to all my children to be equally divided between them subject to the limitations and qualifications herein after mentioned that is to say the part or share which will be going to my daughter Anna T. George is of such balance I give and bequeath to my son John W. Reid in trust for her sole and personal use during the natural life of the said Anna T and after the death of the said Anna T. to her children in the same way that the Negro property is given and disposed of in the 5th item of this my will. 7th By way of further explanation I will state positively so as not to be misunderstood. It is not my will or intention that my son in law Jephtat V. George shall have any part or portion of my property but that everything that is herein given and bequeathed to his wife Anna T. George is to be for her sole and separate use and not to be subject to the claim of the said Jephtat V. or his creditors. 8th and lastly I do herein ordain and appoint my son John W. Reid the executor of this my last will and testament as well as the trustee to carry into affect the provisions thereof ? on the next page. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this the 15th day of August 1842. Mary D. Reid Signed sealed and declared in the presence of Jacob Martin Thomas B. Daniel Isaac M. Cumming We Jacob Martin, I.M. Cumming and Thomas B. Daniel do swear that we saw Mary Reid sign seal and publish and to declare this to be ?? her last will- that at the time thereof she was in sound disposing mind and memory and that she did it freely without compulsion to the best of our knowledge this 5th day of September 1842 Jacob Martin Thomas B. Reid do solemnly swear that this writing contains the last true will and testament of Mary Reid deceased for as I know or believe and that I will make and truly execute the same by paying her debts and then the legacies contained ? said wish as far as her goods and chattels will ? ? and the law charges me and that I will make a true and perfect inventory of all said goods and chattel.
