Dawson was found on the morning of April 4th, 1955, on the Foster's Bridge Road near the Clay-Randolph County Alabama line dead. Mr. Les Waldrop discovered the body. Mr. Dawson was wearing only his shoes. A large portion body had been burned. His clothing and a body part was found a quarter of a mile from his body. Mr. Dawson was working at a blacksmith shop owned by Jim Latham. He was renting a house nearby and taking his meals at Mr. Latham's. Mr. Dawson had only been in the area a few weeks.
