We recommend the adoption and publication in the minutes of the report of Lime Branch Church concerning his death. D.T. Espy, Chairman Dear Brethren, Very soon after your last meeting our church sustained a severe loss in the death of Elder Marion Sewell. He came from your last meeting rather unwell and lived only a few days. He was born in Franklin County GA the 23rd of November 1815, was married to Miss Pauline David on the 23rd of Dec 1836. Being left a widower, he married Miss Sarah Polk on the 3rd of Dec 1839. By his second wife, he raised seven children, four boys, and three girls, all of whom he lived to see grown and members of the same church with him, three of whom had died before him. He was invested(?) and joined Providence Church Madison County, GA in the year 1840 and was baptized by Elder Benjamin Thorton, was ordained to the ministry on the 11th day of November 1853. Ordaining Presbytery Elders John C. Davis, Henry M. Benton, and John G. York. United with Lime Branch Church Polk County GA on the 10th day of April 1869 by letter from Macedonia Church, Coweta County, GA. He was an affectionate husband, a kind father, and a good neighbor. On account of bodily infirmity he was not able to preach for several years before his death. But even beyond his strength he was ready for every good work. He was ever ready to assist his Brethren in bearing burdens—his pastor always found him a safe counselor and an earnest co-worker. He closed his consistent and useful life October 25th 1883. His life was a success and his death a victory. By order of the church in conference. J.W. Pullen Moderator G.L. Pitman Clerk On Temperance Your Committee submit the following: It is hard to say anything new on the subject of temperance. It is easier to see and feel the effects of intemperance than to speak of them. The heath of the contest with the Demon is rising. In the great temperance reform, we have lived to hear the word prohibition sounded in our ears. It is desirable and something to be prayed for that we, as a Baptist Community, will not be behind in helping to suppress the great evil. Your committee have concluded to offer for your consideration and action the following resolution. Resolved. That we, as independent Baptist and as representatives of churches, aid by our votes as citizens the cause of prohibition whenever and wherever opportunity offers. Respectfully submitted, G.R.(?)
