Burgdorf, Sr., 80, of 305 Victoria Ave., Cedartown, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003. He was born May 9. 1922 in Polk County. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a lifelong resident of Cedartown. Retired from Liberty Life Insurance Company, he was also a WWII veteran, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corp., attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. W. and Lillian Edmondson Burgdorf; wife, Shirley Burgdorf; and son, Steve Burgdorf. Survivors include: son, Sam W. Burgdorf, Jr. of Watkinsville; daughters, Susan Lane of Rome and Sharon Jane Jackson of Naples, Fla.; brothers, Richard Burgdorf of Mobile, Ala. and Douglas Burgdorf of Adel; three grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of First Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Benefield officiating. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harwell Minshew, Larry Johnston, John Teat, Frankie Atkins, Howard Hester, Edward Bentley, Kenneth Browning, and Bill Carroll. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
