Squire Burdette Dead
Mr. J A Burdette, one of our well known and venerable citizens who has been 
living for some time with his son, Mr. E L Burdette in Birmingham, died there 
Tuesday morning, aged 73 years.  His widow and his son and family accompanied 
the remains here yesterday morning.  He is also survived by another son, Mr. 
Otis Burdette of Atlanta, who came over with his wife yesterday for the 
funeral, and a daughter, Mrs. Geo. Kennedy.  Others called here by his death 
were Mr. E. D. Mitchell of Decatur, and Mrs. Archie Bridges of Atlanta.  
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. W. Hamrick. 

Mr. Burdette was a charter member of the Union Grove Baptist Church at 
Pooletown, and served for several years as justice of the peace here.  He had 
many warm friends throughout this section.

J A Burdette, 75, died Tuesday morning at the residence 5201 Austin Avenue. 
Funeral services were to be held at the residence Tuesday afternoon. The body 
will be sent to Cedartown, Ga. Wednesday, by Vice. Mr. Burdette is survived by 
his wife, two sons, E. L. Burdette of Birmingham and O H Burdette of Atlanta, 
and one daughter, Mrs. E. L., Kennedy of Birmingham.

Funeral services for J A Burdette, 75, who died at his residence 5201 Austin 
Avenue. Tuesday morning, were held from the residence Tuesday afternoon at 7 
o'clock. The body was sent to Cedartown, Ga., Wednesday morning for burial.


Additional Comments:
This was kindly sent to me by Jane Thompson.  His AL death certificate 
indicates a birth of 20 Oct 1847 but he does not appear on the 1850 census 
with his parents.  On the 1880 census, he is 28 years old which makes a 20 
Oct. 1851 birthdate. He's 45 on 1900; 57 on 1910 and for 1920 he is 69.
