Stephens stephens2247@bellsouth.net January 29, 2007, 6:13 pm The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA, July 17, 2003 Anne Dickens Davenport, 83, of 477 Morgan Valley Rd., Rockmart passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2003 in a Rome hospital. She was born Oct. 17, 1919 in Sparta, Ga., and was a retired Rockmart High School teacher of 34 years. She was vice- president of the Polk County Teachers Association in 1961 and president of the organization in 1962. She attended the National Education Association Convention in Denver, Colorado, representing Polk County, and held the office of secretary of the Association of Classroom Teachers of Georgia for two years. Other associations and organizations of which she was a member include Delta Kappa Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, Delta Pi Epsilon and D.A.R. She was very involved in genealogy and was a member of Rockmart First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fay Guill Dickens and Gordon Lee Dickens, Sr.; husband, Guy F. Davenport, Sr.; and a son, Anthony Kirk Davenport. Survivors include son, Guy F. Davenport, Jr. of Rockmart; daughters, Guill D. Bailey of Douglasville and Priscilla Kines of Decatur, Ala.; brother, Gordon Lee Dickens, Jr. of Milledgeville; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10 at 2 p.m. from the Rockmart First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Autry and Rev. Carol Cook officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Guill, Phil Kinney, Andy Williams, Jimmy Davenport, Kirk Bailey, Colin Davenport, Gordon Dickens, III and Ronnie Kent. Honorary pallbearers were David Williams, Chris Williams, Joel and Ronnie Kent. Honorary pallbearers were David Williams, Chris Williams, Joel Williams, Pat Garner, Sam Davenport, Hal Davenport and Carl Guill. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rockmart First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 152, Rockmart, Ga. 30153, the Pierce United Methodist Church, 716 Bollen St., Sparta, Ga. 30187 or Polk County Retired Teachers Memorial Wall. The Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
