She was born Dec. 30, 1926 in Polk County and was a retired Aragon Mills employee and a member of Aragon Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Evans; parents, James Melvin, Sr., and Willie Mae Easlin York; son, Melvin Wayne Evans; and brother, James Melvin York, Jr. Survivors include a son, William Riley “Rusty” Evans, Sr., of Rockmart; brother, Robert York of Aragon; sisters, Annie Streetman, Deanie Maudin, Hazel Brown, and Pearl Johnson, all of Aragon, and Sybil Petty of Anniston, AL; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. from the Freeman Harris Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gary Parrish officiated. Interment followed in Aragon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Streetman, Randy York, Blake York, Brent York, James Thompson and Ormond Sorrells. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
