Garrison, Sr., 78, 1491 Taylorsville-Macedonia Rd., Taylorsville, passed away Thursday, July 24, following a period of declining health. He was born October 12, 1924 in Taylorsville, the son of the late Luna Rutledge Garrison and the late Samuel J. Garrison. Garrison was a member of the Taylorsville Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday School director and choir member. He was also the owner and operator of the Garrison Dairy for many years and was a 50-year member of the John Akin Masonic Lodge #537 F&AM of Taylorsville. He was also a member of the Euharlee Farmers Club as well as a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army during the European campaign. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie E. McDurmon. Survivors include: two daughters, Linda Campbell, Rockmart, and Diane Bockholt of Calhoun; two sons, Charles “Chuck” Garrison and Donny H. Garrison, both of Taylorsville; four sisters, LaVerne Turner, Stuart, FL, Hazel Daws, Douglasville, Martha Gilstrap, Cartersville and Jerri Flournoy, Ludowici; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 26, in the sanctuary of the Taylorsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Dempsey and the Rev. Doug Harris officiating. Interment followed at the Taylorsville Cemetery. Pallbearers included: Tommy Daws, Jimmy Turner, Matt Flournoy, Jerry McDurmon and Keith McDurmon. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Euharlee Farmers Club, the deacons of the Taylorsville Baptist Church, members of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class, and fellow lodge brothers of the John A. Akin Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Garrison to the Taylorsville Baptist Church, 19 Church St. SW, Taylorsville, GA 30178. The Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
