He was born January 23, 1917 in Polk County and was a member of the Kresge United Methodist Church. He was a retired Sgt. Major serving with the U.S. Army and was a World War II Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Floyd and Amelia Brown Gober; wife, Eleanor Summerville Gober; brothers, Edward A. Gober, John H. Gober, Dewey Lee Gober, Jewitt T. Gober, Arthur L, Gober, Byrd Thomas Gober and Thomas B. Gober; sisters, Lucy Ida Gober, Pearl “Pat” Gober Statham, Lois Eva Gober Cole, Nathalie Gober Countryman, Nora G. King and Maude G. Moates. He is survived by his sister, Ann Gilmore of Anderson; S.C. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services for Joseph Floyd Gober were conducted Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Northview Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Arnold officiating. The interment followed in the Northview Cemetery with Full Military honors conducted by the Brewster Cleveland Post #86. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Kresge Church Building Fund. Nephews served as pallbearers. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
