January 19, 2007, 9:54 am (The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA, January 14, 2003) Joseph Floyd Gober, 85, of 133 Vance Ave., Cedartown, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003. He was born Jan. 23, 1917 in Polk County and was a member of Kresge United Methodist Church. He was a retired Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by: parents, James Floyd and Amelia Brown Gober; wife, Eleanor Summerville Gober; brothers; Edward A. Gober, John H. Gober, Dewey Lee Gober, Jewitt T. Gober, Arthur L. Gober, Byrd Thomas Gober, and Thomas B. Gober; sisters, Lucy Ida Gober, Pearl “Pat” Gober Statham, Lois Eva Gober Cole, Nathalie Gober Countryman, Nora G. King, and Maude G. Moates. Survivors include: P. Ann Hughes of Cedartown; and sister, Ann Gilmore of Anderson, SC. Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Northview Cemetery with Rev. Steve Arnold officiating. Full military honors were conducted by the Brewster Cleveland Post #86. Nephews served as pallbearers. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to the Kresge Church Building Fund. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
