Singleton, Sr., age 81, of 70 Gentry Road, Rockmart, died Wednesday, July 10, in a Rome hospital. He was born November 14, 1909, in Paulding County. He was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorsie Phillips Singleton; and his parents, James E. and Nettie Hardman Singleton. Surviving are two sons, William L. Singleton, JR. and Joseph M. Singleton, both of Rockmart; two daughters, Mary S. Sharp of Wilmington, Delaware, and Joyce S. Robertson of Marietta; one brother, Hoyt J. Singleton, Smyrna; two sisters, Doris Locklear, of Rockmart and Beatrice Renfroe, of Dallas; and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. from Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Locklear and the Rev. Hoyt Lewis officiating. Interment followed in Friendship Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ormond Sorrells, Terry Sorrells, Doyle Singleton, Jr., Johnny Atcheson, Keith Renfroe and James Renfroe. The Freeman Harris Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
