Stephens wend@bellsouth.net March 24, 2004, 2:01 pm (The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, Ga, August 24, 1967, page 4) James Eugene South, age 65, of Rt. 2, Cedartown passed away suddenly early Monday morning at Polk General Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday from New Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Brown, the Rev. Hosea Mull, the Rev. Jerry Trawick, and the Rev. Hurbert Cole officiating. Interment followed in the New Harmony Cemetery. Mr. South was born August 23, 1901 in Cleburne County, Alabama, but had spent most of his life in Cedartown. He was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church. Surviving are: his wife, the former Bertha Ealy; one son, Charles South of Cedartown; three daughters: Mrs. Jeff Acton of Birmingham, Alabama, Mrs. David Lawson, Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mrs. Joe Albirght of Nevada, Calif.; one brother, Lowell South of Rome, Georgia and two sisters, Mrs. C. C. Maddox and Mrs. Bruce Phillips, both of Cedartown. Three grandchildren also survive. Pallbearers were: James Phillips, Cooper Phillips, Calvin Phillips, M.C. Evans, Cecil Crocker, Jimmy Smith and Dennis Maddox. Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
