.(The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., June 4, 1981) 
George Washington Smith, 73, Cedartown Rte. 3, died Saturday. He was born Jan. 
25, 1908 in Polk County. Survivors are his widow, Minnes Stephens Smith, 
Cedartown; five daughters, Mrs. Catherine Short, Mrs. Shirley Dowdy and Mrs. 
Betty Womack, all of Cedartown, Mrs. Edna Stephens, Chattanooga, Tenn., and 
Mrs. Bonnie Laminack, Muscadine, Ala.; six sons, George W. Smith Jr., Sarasota, 
Fla., Robert Smith, Columbus, Edward Smith, Bradenton, Fla., Billy Ray Smltih, 
Rome, Melvin Smith, Bradenton, Fla., and Mike Smith, Cedartown; his mother, 
Mrs. Bell Smith, Cedartown; two sisters, Mrs. Viola McElwee, Rome and Mrs. 
Francis Farmer, Cedartown; 37 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral 
services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the 
Revs. Donald Leggett and Leroy Cooper officiating. Interment will be in Oak 
Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Cole, David Ingram, Ronald Stephens, 
Dale Stephens, Billy Smith and Danny Smith. Gammage Funeral Home in charge of
