Mr. Akins was born June 9, 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas son of the late Mollie Ford Akins and the late C. Manco Akins. He was a member of the Yokosuka, Japan Masonic Lodge No. 20 F & AM, member of the Yorkville Baptist Church and attended the Aragon United Methodist Church. Mr. Akins was retired from the United States Navy with 22 years service and was a member of Rockmart American Legion Post No. 12. He was also retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 20 years service. He was preceded in death by stepmother, Mrs. Audrey Lee White Akins; brother, Mr. Howard O. Akins. Surviving are wife, Mrs. Shizuko (Cindy) Akins, Rockmart, to whom he was married on May 27, 1960; sisters, Mrs. Hazel Akins White and Mrs. Marion Akins Ezzell, both of Rockmart, Mrs. Mary Ann Akins Puckett, Austell; nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 in the Freeman Harris Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Gerald Rogers and Rev. Avery Dodd officiating. Interment was held in Rockmart Memorial Gar-dens. Pallbearers were Mark Musgrove, Michael Musgrove, Jerry Ezzell, Tracy Ezzell, Patrick Ezzell and Greg Akins. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Ezzell, Ted Moates, Bruce Brantly, Harry Ford and Al Miller. Freeman Harris Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal, Rockmart, GA.)
