Mrs. Minnie Thomas Backers, 93, 528 Hunter St., Rockmart, died January 2, 2004. 
Mrs. Backers was born August 9, 1910 in Polk County, daughter of the late Erwin 
Thomas and Belle Hooper Thomas. She was a homemaker and member of Atco Baptist 
Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Hiram Backers, Sr. Surviving are 
son, Hiram Backers Jr., Bluff City, TN; grandson, Steve Backers, Johnson City, 
TN; granddaughter, Cyndi Sanders, Silver Creek, GA. The funeral service was 
conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Bellview Baptist Church with 
Rev. Charles Ivey officiating. Interment was in the Bellview Cemetery. 
Pallbearers were J.C. Thomas, Dennis Thomas, J.W. Thomas, Harold Wayne Backers, 
James Wigley, “Bobby” Backers, Austin Panter and Freddie Sanders. The Freeman 
Harris Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. (The Rockmart Journal,
