Joseph Lee “Joe” Smith, 87, of Watts Rd, Cedartown, formerly of Centre, AL, 
passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Smith 
of Cedartown; sons, Gaines Smith of Sand Rock, AL and Winston Smith of Centre, 
AL; daughter, Martha Maltbie of Southside, AL; step-son, Anthony Bowens of 
Cedartown; step-daughters, Bonnie Anderson and Glenda Vaughn, both of 
Cedartown; sister, Mary McElrath of Centre, AL; 5 grandchildren, two step-
grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 
conducted Thursday, February 20 at 7 p.m. at the Centre Memorial Chapel with 
Rev. Robert Hulsey officiating. Interment followed in the Parkers Grove 
Cemetery in Centre. The Centre Memorial Chapel of Center, AL was in charge of 
the arrangements. This announcement is made locally for the family and friends
