Stephens wend@bellsouth.net April 19, 2004, 1:15 pm (Cedartown Standard, June 20, 1901) Mr. J. Sam Davitte, One of Polk,s best young men passed away last Friday at Rockmart. Mr. J. Sam Davitte, the oldest son of Hon. and Mrs. J. S. Davitte, yielded to the dread ravages of consumption, after a heroic struggle for life. He and his wife had only recently returned from an extended stay at Phoenix, Ariz., where they went in the hope that the salubrious climate of that region might prove beneficial to his health. He was about twenty-six years of age, and leaves a wife and little child to mourn his loss. His wife was formerly Miss Kate Barber of Rockmart. The remains were laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery at Rockmart the following day, the funeral obsequies being very largely attended.
