The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA, July 22, 2003
David Allen Newsome, 45, of Shannon, formerly of Rockmart, passed away Monday, 
June 30, 2003. Mr. Newsome was born in Cobb County on Aug. 26, 1957, the son of 
Mary Sue Hix Newsome and the late Gene Allen Newsome. He had been a resident of 
Rome and Floyd County for the past 4 years. Prior to retirement, he was a self-
employed carpenter. He was a member of the Rome Church of Christ. Surviving are 
his wife, Libby Barry Newsome; his mother, Sue Newsome of Aragon; two-step 
daughters, Denise Haney of Smyrna and Tina Harrell of Cedartown; one step-son, 
Scott Benefield of Smyrna; three sisters, Rita Newsome Tanner, Celeste Maddux 
of Trion, and Jackie Newsome of Lyerly; a twin brother, Michael Eugene Newsome 
of Orlando, Fla.; grandmother, Velma Bagley Cross of Summerville and a number 
of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services were held 
Thursday, July 3 at 3 p.m. in the Rome Church of Christ with Minister David O’ 
Connell officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of the West Hill 
Cemetery of Summerville. The following served as pallbearers: Don Tanner, Kyle 
Tanner, Jason Bray, Biff Peace, Thomas Callen and Linden Pierce. This 
announcement was made on behalf of the family by the Freeman Harris Funeral
