Edna Ruth Waters, age 67, of Lafayette, passed away Saturday, September 14, 
1996 following an extended illness.  Mrs. Waters was born June 6, 1929 in 
Cherokee County, Alabama.  She was a retired textile weaver.  She was preceded 
in death by: parents, Charlie Boyd and Bessie Mae Smith; son, Daniel R. 
Winkles; stepson, Donald Waters; sister, Betty Mitchell; and brother, Charles 
W. Smith.  Survivors include: husband, J. R. Waters of Lafayette; daughter, 
Brenda Peek of St. Augustine, Florida; stepdaughter Betty Pyles of Cedartown; 
sister Dixie Lewis of Cedartown; Buddy E. Smith of Marietta; three 
grandchildren and six step grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two step 
great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were 
held  Monday, September 16, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral 
Home with the Rev. Chuck Garner officiating.  Interment followed in Polk Memory 
Gardens. The Gammage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. (Cedartown
