Stephens wend@bellsouth.net March 25, 2004, 1:20 pm (Anniston Star, Anniston, AL, Page 6 D, Thursday, November 18, 1971) Mrs. Kate Mathis Smith, age 69, of 511 Cook St., died Wednesday morning at Centre Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were today at 2 p.m., at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Cole, the Rev. C. B. Davis and the Rev. Lamar Anderson officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Mickleson-Brown Service Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include her husband, James T. Smith; four daughters, Mrs. Jesse Taylor and Mrs. Edith Gibson, both of Piedmont, Mrs. Jack Hendon of Tampa, Fla., and Mrs. Garvin Morris of Florida; one son, Michael Smith of Piedmont; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Powell of Piedmont, Mrs. Alma Slaughter of Rockmart, GA., and Mrs. T. W. Bonds of Jacksonville; two brothers, Henry Mathis of Anniston and Jesse Mathis of Montgomery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Smith had lived in Piedmont all her life and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
