Stephens wend@bellsouth.net March 25, 2004, 2:02 pm (Cedartown Standard, August 5, 1976) Mr. Luther Slaughter, age 78, of Rockmart passed away August 5, 1976, in Polk General Hospital. Mr. Slaughter was born in Cherokee County, Ala., July 10, 1898. He was a member of the Church of God. Surviving are: his wife Mrs. Alma Mathis Slaughter of Rockmart; one son Kenneth Slaughter of Cedartown; six daughters, Mrs. Donald Chastain, Mrs. Harold Snodgrass and Mrs. Glenn Kimbrell, all of Atlanta. Mrs. W. A. Goddard of Brooks, GA., Mrs. J. C. Bowman of Cedartown and Miss Kim Slaughter of Rockmart: one brother, Willie Slaughter of Cedartown; two sisters Mrs. Effie Leach of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Mrs. Julia Gossart of Piedmont, Al.: 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Freeman Harris Funeral Home with the Rev. Elgin Williams officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery in Cedartown. Pallbearers were Amos Slaughter, Jackie Slaughter, Charles Mannings, Billy Ballew, Ed Camp and Don Wheeler. Freeman Harris Funeral Home of Rockmart was in charge of arrangements.
