Two persons, one a man of 55, the other a boy of 11, met their deaths in Atlanta Saturday afternoon in two automobile accidents. In one case a hit and run autoist is blamed for the fatality. J. P. Mullinax, of Piedmont Ala., was almost instantly killed late in the afternoon when he was struck by an automobile occupied by two unidentified men. The accident occurred at the intersection of Howell Mill road and Marietta street. Mullinax was crossing Marietta when the machine, traveling at great speed, hit him, according to reports of Call Officers C. P. Whatley and Otis Williams. Thrown into the air by the first impact of the car, Mullinax's body received a second blow as he descended. The automobile proceeded west on Marietta street at increased speed witnesses said. Mullinax was taken to Grady hospital in an ambulance, but died shortly after his arrival. His body was badly mauzled. He received a fracture of the skull and laternal injuries. He was identified by two sons, Chester and Arthur Mullinax of 976 Howell Mill road. According to his sons, Mr. Mullinax, who had been their guest for about three weeks, had come here to seek a job. The accident was witnessed by Mrs. A. G. McGowan of 1179 Koonts avenue, a passing motorist and a Negro youth. Carl Brown of 651 West Eizbth street. Neither of them could tell police whether the occupants of the machine were white or Negroes. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made. (Atlanta Constitution Sunday, December 08, 1929.)
