Stephens wend@bellsouth.net March 30, 2004, 7:45 pm (Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., January 30, 2003) Claude Holcombe, Jr., 79, formerly of Polk Street, Rockmart, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003 following an extended illness. He was born Sept. 21, 1923 in Paulding County and retired from the Goodyear Mill following 38 years of service. He was a member of the Yorkville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Ferguson Holcombe, and his parents, Claude and Emma Watts Holcombe. Survivors include sisters Mattie Locklear, Florine Holcombe and Pearline Holcombe, all of Rockmart; brother, Gene Holcombe of Marietta; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home. Rev. L.A. Tapp and Rev. Cordell Tibbetts officiated. Interment followed in the Yorkville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Billy Holland, Ken Thomas, Danny Gamel, Lanier Sanders and Anthony Holcombe. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
