Stephens wend@bellsouth.net April 17, 2004, 12:32 pm (Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., May 15, 2003) John “Earl” Blankenship, 66, of 24 Pine Forest Dr., Cedartown, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003. He was a native of Cedartown, a fireman from 1959 to 1964, and was a carpenter for most of his life. He was also a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by: mother, Rachel Ayers Blankenship; stepmother, Gert Blankenship; brothers, Billy and Estol Wayne Blankenship. Survivors include: father, Billy Blankenship; wife, Shirley Blake Blankenship; son, Mike Blankenship; daughters, Amanda Wood, Rena Smith, and Tina Blankenship; sisters, Jeanette Carnes, JoAnn Sanders, and Carol Griffin; brother, Donnie Blankenship; 8 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 10, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. J.C. Robinson, Rev. Jerome Smith, and Rev. R.B. Hulsey officiating. Interment followed in Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Martin, Dewey Chandler, Richard Robinson, W.J. Cole, Cowboy Folsom, Coy Patterson, Tony McElwee, Timmy Blankenship, Scott Blankenship, Brian Blankenship.
