Alma Lee Austin, 74, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 1997. Mrs. Austin was born 
July 1, 1923 in Polk County. She was a member of Friendly Baptist Church. She 
was preceded in death by her parents, James Merrick and Bertha Mae Witcher 
Coleman. Surviving are: husband William O. Austin, Jr., of Cedartown: three 
daughters Linda Slafta of Lawrenceville, Gail Bailey and Melissa Johnson, both 
of Cedartown; son, William Austin of Akin, S.C.; six grandchildren and three 
great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3, at 2 p.m., 
from the chapel of the Gammage Funeral Home with the Rev. R.B. Hulsey, Dr. 
Larry Conner and the Rev. Clay Willis officiating. Interment followed in 
Northview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: William Mobley, Mack Moore, 
Lonnie Nails, David Hudgins, Robert Hulsey, and Jeff Hulsey. The Gammage 
Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
