The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA., Thursday, May 10, 1934
Funeral services were conducted from the home two miles from Rockmart, 
Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock for Mr. George Spencer Carlton, 54, who was 
found early Tuesday morning in a cistern on the porch of his home.  Interment 
took place at Bethlehem church at Fish Creek.  Mr. Carlton had been in bad 
health for a number of years, and for the past several weeks had been 
helplessly confined to his bed.  According to reports Mr. Carlton arose early 
in the morning without the knowledge of his wife who was sleeping in the same 
room.  He was heard on the porch, but before he could be reached by the members 
of his family he had made the fatal leap.  Help was immediately summoned, but 
he apparently died in a short time.  Mr. Carlton had made his home in this 
community practically all his life, and was highly respected planter and was 
beloved by everyone.  Survivors are.  His widow, who before her marriage was 
Miss Alma Biggers and one daughter, Charlie Rose, Three brothers: Mack, 
Chattanooga; Jeff of Rockmart and Sam of Collard Valley; four sisters, Misses 
Hattie, Annie, Mae and Mrs. J.E. Brown, all of Rockmart.  W. B. Cochran was in
