Stephens wend@bellsouth.net July 11, 2004, 5:58 pm The Atlanta Constitution, Atlanta, GA, December 7, 1875 Cedartown--Our usually quiet town was startled on last Saturday night by the report about 9 o’clock that a man was shot out on the Priors station road, near the Cedar creek bridge. It appears that a young man from Haralson county, Bud Turbyville, had hired Cicero Surratt, who lives about six miles from town, to pilot him around Cedartown with a whisky wagon. Turbyville agreed to pay Surratt a certain sum, and in the settlement got into a dispute about the amount, Turbyville refusing to pay the amount agreed upon. Immediately after the shooting, Turbyville mounted one of his horses and left. Surratt had been drinking pretty freely during the day, and was in a drunken condition when shot. He lived until 3 o’clock Sunday morning. He leaves a wife and eight children, in a destitute condition, we presume. The coroner’s jury found a verdict in accordance with the above facts.--Record File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/polk/obits/ob4853surratt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.5 Kb
