John Joseph “Joe” Vance, Sr., 77, of 417 Chestnut St., Cedartown, passed away 
Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003. He was born Feb. 20, 1926 in Polk County and was a 
member of First Presbyterian Church. He also served as a deacon and member of 
the building committee. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in both World War 
II and Korea. He was a real estate broker by profession. He was preceded in 
death by his parents, Charles J. Vance Sr. and Mildred Thornton Vance; 
brothers, Charles J. Vance Jr. and Thornton Vance; sisters, Mary Lois Darden 
and Mildred Frew. survivors include wife, Ann McKay Vance; sons, Brad Vance and 
John Joe Vance Jr.; daughter, Mary-Cile Vance; three grandchildren, and one 
great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. 
at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Grove officiating. Interment 
followed in Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Brewster-
Cleveland Post 86. Nephews served as pallbearers. Lester C. Litesey Funeral
