Melba “Kathern” Powell White, 73, of McCormick, SC, passed away at home 
Thursday, March 13, 2003. She was born July 28, 1929 in Polk County, was 
retired from Rockey River and was a member of the Emerald City Church of God. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julis and Maude Greenway Powell. 
Survivors include her husband, James E. White, Sr. of McCormick; sons, 
Julius “Butch” Clifford Wood of Edgefield, SC and Julius “ and James Earl 
White, Jr. of Troy, SC; daughter, Mary Maude Wiking of Bradley, SC; and 5 
grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 15 at 3 p.m. at 
the Emerald City Church of God. Rev. Tim Taylor, Bobby Hostetler and Loyd 
Browning officiated. Interment followed at the Plum Branch Cemetery in Plum 
Branch, SC. Pallbearers were Clyde Atkins, James Brown, Sr., Dale Shirley, 
Johnny Barnes, Richard Higginbothan, Wayne Pinn, Edward Weeks and Danny Stepp. 
The Strom Funeral Home of McCormick, SC, was in charge of the arrangements. The
