John Hardy and Rhody Phillips

John Hardy was born  10 Jul 1780 in North Carolina.  Both the Hardy and 
Phillips families were in Dobbs County before the division was made in 1791, 
to become Lenoir County, North Carolina.  About 1809, John married Rhody, 
daughter of James and Margaret (Swillivant) Phillips.  The Phillips Family 
Bible gives Rhody’s birth as 18 Dec 1793 and death 11 Aug 1875.

Below is a timeline of John Hardy: 
07 Jan 1817 Birth of son, Richard in North Carolina.

About 1818  With Richard, merely an infant, the family pick up belongings and 
move from Lenoir Co., NC to Jasper Co., GA some 365 miles away.

19 Mar 1819  Birth of son, William in Georgia

1830  Jasper Co., GA census, pg 379

14 Mar 1831  John is listed in his father-in-law’s will as the husband of Rody 
Phillips.

1832  Three of John’s children;  John, Isaac, and Arjaine listed on the Poor 
School List.

27 Apr 1833  In Jasper Co., North Carolina a Deed of sale by John to Daniel 
Phillips, his brother-in-law.

Sometime after 1833, the family moves from Jasper Co. to Pulaski Co., GA

06 May 1843  Organization of the Friendship Baptist Church.  One of the elders 
or ministers was Berry Hobbs, who was a neighbor to John Hardy on the 1850 
Census of Pulaski Co., GA.  

16 Sep 1850  Division #69, pg 256, Pulaski Co., GA census

06 Feb 1857  John’s is the earliest grave listed in the Hardy Cemetery in 
Houston Co., AL.  My greatest question; Did he die in Pulaski Co., GA or 
Houston Co., Alabama?
